Strategy of Mechanical Engineering Toppers in GATE 2019

Every year despite intense preparation, only few GATE aspirants are able to achieve top ranks in GATE. Students who have achieved good GATE score become ideal example for others as an inspirational figure for new aspirants.

Aspirants preparing for GATE exam look up to them as ideal examples, and try to learn from their experiences and the challenges faced by them.

Now the question that arises is what are the strategies, study material, and GATE books for ME branch that were used by GATE rankers from ME branch? Have they taken any GATE coaching for ME? If yes, which coaching institute they joined, and which faculty is expert in his respective domain. If they did not join any coaching then what was their study plan? There are many such questions that crop up in an aspirant’s mind.

If a GATE aspirant is acquainted to any previous year topper then he can get his or her queries resolved, but unfortunately not all GATE aspirants are so lucky.

This blog is written keeping in mind the requirements of those students who don’t know any GATE topper but are keen to know about the preparation strategy of GATE toppers from the past.

Here we are going to share the success story of Anshul Goel, GATE 2019 AIR-2 ranker from ME branch. Anshul Goel shared his success story with IES Master in a one-to-one interview.

Here are the highlights of the interview:

What were your marks in GATE 2019?

My marks were 94.65

What was your overall strategy with regard to GATE preparation?

Actually I am more focused on Engineering Services. I prepared my whole strategy in the month of February only after Engineering Services Prelims exam. The syllabus for both the exams is same. So, first of all, I completed all the basic concepts for the GATE.

I used to take one test from the IES Master Test Series every alternate day. One day was spent on analyzing the test. When I took all the previous years’ questions, I used to write full-length tests, and then analyses them.

I used to refer the IES Master Study material only during my preparation instead of looking for what and from where to study in the textbooks. This helped me in covering the vast syllabus in less amount of time.

Other important questions that were asked during the interview were, “What is the biggest mistake that students commit?”, “Which year do you think students should start preparing for GATE?”, and many others.

One should always remember that every student is different. So, following the strategy of others might work for some and not work for some. Therefore, while going through the preparation strategy of past GATE toppers one should only consider and take those important pointsthat can work for you. And, on the basis of these important points, you candevelop your own GATE preparation strategy. Best of luck for your future.
